Consultancy Services
Abel Software has been developing and delivering Abel ERP since 1996, supporting manufacturing, processing, and distribution businesses across 13 countries, with particular strength in New Zealand and Australia. Abel works with small, medium, large, and enterprise businesses that manage complex operations, supply chains, and regulatory requirements.
We deliver Abel ERP to improve how your business operates
Implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is more than a technical project — it’s an opportunity to improve efficiency, strengthen control, and gain greater visibility across your business.
Our consultancy services combine practical business understanding with structured delivery to ensure your Abel ERP system is configured to support your key processes and continues to deliver value as your business evolves.
From the start of every implementation, we assign two ERP Consultants, which ensures continuity throughout delivery. Additional consultants are involved as needed, bringing targeted expertise at the right stages.
We work alongside your team through each stage of implementation, from initial setup through to go-live, and remain involved beyond go-live to guide ongoing improvement.
Signs your business has outgrown its current systems
Many businesses come to us when their systems no longer keep up with the scale and complexity of their operations, making it harder to maintain the visibility, control, and confidence needed to manage day-to-day performance. Information is often spread across multiple systems, spreadsheets, and disconnected processes, making it difficult to understand performance, manage margins, or gain a clear view of overall business health.
Key signs your systems may no longer be keeping up:
- Limited visibility of stock on hand, costs, margins, and financial performance
- Teams spending significant time working across spreadsheets and multiple systems
- Reporting that is slow, difficult to reconcile, or lacks clarity
- Limited visibility into how your numbers are generated and how the business is performing
- Difficulty managing increasing complexity across inventory, manufacturing, scheduling, quality, or finance
- Systems and processes that no longer support the scale or pace of your business
This often leads to inefficiency, uncertainty, and a loss of control as the business grows.
We help businesses move from disconnected systems to a single, integrated ERP environment that supports the scale and complexity of your business — bringing together sales, orders, inventory, manufacturing, scheduling, quality, finance, and other core processes in one system. This creates a clear, reliable view of performance, improves decision-making, and helps you regain control of your operations.

Delivering and evolving your Abel ERP system
Our ERP Consultants follow a structured delivery process for Abel implementations that reduces project risk and aligns your system to your business processes.
Our approach combines practical business understanding with disciplined implementation, configuration, and integration — ensuring your Abel ERP system is clearly defined, delivered in a controlled way, and able to evolve with your business over time.
1. Understand and Scope
Every successful implementation starts with clarity. We work with you to:
- Understand your current processes, systems, and data — establishing a clear baseline for design and decision-making
- Identify gaps, risks, inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities — focusing where change will deliver the most value
- Define your future-state workflows and requirements — ensuring alignment between your operations and system definition
- Scope a solution aligned to your business processes — creating a clear and controlled foundation for implementation
This stage defines scope, reduces project risk, and ensures your implementation begins with a well-understood, structured foundation.
2. Prepare and Configure
Most Abel implementations span three months pre-live and two months post-live — five months in total.
From the start of your project, we assign a lead ERP Consultant supported by a second consultant, which ensures continuity throughout delivery and avoids reliance on a single individual.
Our consultants prepare your Abel database and configure your system to support your operational and financial processes.
This includes:
- System configuration and workflow setup
- Guided data preparation and loading
- Integration planning and development
- Structured delivery across defined project phases
We bring in additional Abel specialists when required for areas such as finance, integrations, BI, and specific operational processes.
Our approach ensures your Abel ERP system is configured to support your operations and ready for effective day-to-day use by your team.
3. Integrate and Automate
Connecting systems and automating processes improves efficiency, accuracy, and control across your business.
We deliver integration and automation as part of your Abel implementation or as separate projects. Our ERP Consultants work with you to define requirements and coordinate delivery with our development team so that solutions are practical and aligned to your operational needs.
Integration and automation capabilities include:
- API-based integrations with external systems
- EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) connections with trading partners
- Real-time data flows with third parties
- Automation across key business processes
Examples include:
- Capturing sales from Shopify and WooCommerce websites
- Automating workflows with third-party warehousing and logistics providers
- Electronic trading with customers and suppliers, either directly or via a Value Added Network (VAN) provider for exchanging structured trading documents
- Automated accounts payable workflows
- Integration with scales, scanners, and specialist labelling systems
Integration and automation reduce manual effort, improve data accuracy, and strengthen control and visibility across your business processes.
4. Test, Train, and Go Live
We work with your team to prepare your system for live operation through structured testing, validation, and training — ensuring readiness across your processes, data, and users.
This stage includes:
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT) using real business scenarios
- Validation of processes, workflows, and data
- Role-based training and guidance for key users
- Support through go-live, system cutover, and your first end-of-month
We ensure your system, data, processes, and team are fully prepared for go-live.
5. Evolve and Improve
Our ERP Consultants remain involved beyond implementation to deliver ongoing improvement, so that your system continues to deliver value as your business evolves.
Two months after go-live, day-to-day support and assistance transition to the Abel Help Desk, which responds to issues, user queries, and minor configuration changes.
In addition, two ERP Consultants are assigned to your business, giving you ongoing access to people who understand your systems, processes, and goals. Where possible, we assign the same consultants who worked on your implementation, maintaining continuity and building on knowledge gained during your project.
How we deliver ongoing improvement:
- Maintain regular contact with your team — ensuring your system continues to align with changing requirements
- Provide ongoing consultancy and business process optimisation — improving efficiency across your operations
- Analyse and scope new requirements, integrations, and automation
- Guide continuous improvement initiatives — identifying and delivering practical enhancements
Our model provides consistent access to ERP Consultants who understand your business, enabling ongoing improvement, controlled change, and long-term system reliability.
