Following our recent South Island focus event in Christchurch, which included a golf morning and a mini‑conference with a number of customers and technology partners, members of Abel’s Auckland team took the opportunity to visit some of our South Island customers. We visited Pack Tech Moulding at their certified food contact packaging facility in Rolleston, where they manufacture both food‑grade and non‑food‑grade products. It’s an impressive example of a New Zealand manufacturing operation delivering quality products for customers in New Zealand and overseas.
While we work closely with the Pack Tech team through our Christchurch consulting practice — opportunities for our Auckland team to visit South Island customers are always valuable. Site visits allow us to reconnect with the people who drive the operation and see the environment where the work actually happens. Those face‑to‑face conversations remain an important part of maintaining strong, long‑term partnerships.
A highly capable New Zealand manufacturer
Pack Tech Moulding is a New Zealand‑owned and operated manufacturing business with more than 20 years’ experience designing and manufacturing injection moulded and extrusion blow moulded products. Operating from their certified food contact packaging facility, the team manufactures both food‑grade and non‑food‑grade products, supporting customers across the food, industrial, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical sectors.
As an approved food‑safe provider, Pack Tech operates with quality and food safety procedures aligned to HACCP principles and relevant New Zealand and international standards. That level of discipline is evident throughout the operation — from production and quality control through to warehousing, logistics, and delivery both within New Zealand and offshore.
Strengthening connections, face to face
A key benefit of the visit was the opportunity to meet in person. For members of the Abel management team, the visit provided valuable insight into the operation behind the scenes. While our ERP consultants regularly spend time on site with customers, this was an opportunity for the wider team to see Abel and Pack Tech working together in practice — and to reinforce that strong partnerships are built on people as much as systems.
Seeing the operation firsthand was genuinely impressive. The scale and pace of Pack Tech’s operation reflect the strength of a team that knows its business well, and the capability of a purpose‑built facility. From an Abel perspective, it was encouraging to see how effectively our software supports their operation, streamlining workflows and improving efficiency.
Reflecting on the visit, Alister McKenzie, General Manager Operations at Pack Tech Moulding, shared his views:
“Having the site visit with Callum, Rik & Craig was really useful as we could explain what worked well, what our implementation issues had been and what our ongoing challenges are with the way that we operate. We could also show them some of our processes and interactions within the Abel environment. From this they gave ideas on how to change what we were doing and explained new developments that may help but, more importantly, the Abel team understood some of the implications of the interaction between Abel and other software platforms we use. This visit also made them aware of potential Abel product development opportunities i.e. real operational issues we were facing that others may have also. From this visit we came away with a deeper understanding of the potential within the software, and the Abel team could see how their software operates in our environment.”
Working alongside Pack Tech Moulding
We’d like to sincerely thank the Pack Tech Moulding team for welcoming our Auckland team on site and for the openness with which they shared their operation.
We’re proud to work alongside manufacturers like Pack Tech Moulding and see Abel contribute to their continued success.
